Managing Director of UK Supported Living Services
I started working in the care sector as the large institutions were shutting down 1984. The process commenced in the Northwest of England and the challenge was trying to integrate people who had spent many years detained and / or as voluntary patients in large Victorian hospitals back into the community. I worked for the private, public and third sector primarily supporting people with challenging behaviour and forensic histories. In the year 2000 I returned to education and eventually became a Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities, during this period I worked at Ashworth Special Hospital primarily in the personality disorder services.
After a spell as a community nurse, I took over as the Managing Director of a large Liverpool based organisation that provided support to serious offenders often diagnosed with mental illness, dual diagnosis and / or personality disorder. During that period I became a chartered manager specialising in accounts and finance. In 2008 we set up a Dorset based organisation and by 2010 had taken it away from its original Liverpool location. I then concentrated on a project that had interested me since I worked for the NHS, breaking down the workflow associated with Supported Living Services into its component parts, developing a digital platform from that work that produced, remote real time Management Information and data so the administration role of management and staff could be minimised and they could do what they were employed to do, work positively with our customers. That work led to the development of CORP (Care and Operational Risk Platform), the system led to the final of RCNi Nurse of the year in 2016 / 2019.
We now provide 2,700 hours of support across Dorset to people with profound Learning Disabilities, ASD, Personality Disorders, substance misuse issues and forensic histories. We continue the development of the software.
